From House Showing to Headshots: An Unexpected Realtor Story

“Ignore the photo on the back of my card. It looks nothing like me!”

Suddenly, I was focused on the realtor’s headshot instead of the house we were there to see. Her tone changed. I sensed a hint of insecurity about the professional image she was presenting.

A micro-smile crossed my face as I recognized the irony of the situation. She had no idea she was apologizing for her headshot to a professional photographer.

“I’m Tara.” Her words snapped me back to the moment. I glanced up and was met with a firm handshake, and the same warm smile I saw on her card. She was right, it looked nothing like her. Her family member had taken the photo in front of their house and the way her hair was tied back, it looked like she had a short haircut. She always cringed knowing this was the photo that was representing her.

My partner and I introduced ourselves as we stepped into the front foyer of the house. It topped our list of favourites.

As we followed her around the corner into the open-concept main floor, a beautiful morning light filled the air casting a warm golden hue through the space. “This light is gorgeous!! Can you imagine me working in here?!” My eyes widened as I excitedly glanced at my partner.

“Oh, you work from home? What do you do?”

“I’m a professional photographer!” I said, eyes transfixed on the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a beautiful wooded area.

“You are?! I need to hire you for a new headshot! Do you have a card on you?” Tara asked enthusiastically.

I pulled out a selection of cards, each with a different image on the back and let her choose her favourite.

Realtor Headshots Waterloo – A Favourite Location

I suggested we meet at one of my favourite locations in Uptown Waterloo. In fact, I’d photographed another client there a few weeks earlier. I knew she’d love the rich wood corridor as a clean, elegant background.

Now she hands over her business card with confidence, keeping the focus on the houses she’s showing!

What’s In a Headshot?

Tara no longer asks people to ignore the photo on her business card when introducing herself. Instead, she makes a great first impression so she can focus on helping clients find the right home. That’s exactly what a great headshot should do.

Does your current headshot no longer feel like you? Or maybe never did)! If so, I’d love to help! Let’s chat.
