“Tell me more about this backdrop!” I felt a little nervous that this one detail might lose us the bid for the RaeLipskie team headshots. They had just sent over an example of the backdrop they’ve used in the past and were asking if we had something similar. We didn’t. I needed to learn more about what exactly they were looking for.
“We really like that the painted leaves pull in the concept of our logo!”
Relief flooded my mind releasing any anxiousness I’d been feeling. I knew that not only could I deliver what they were hoping for but we could bring a more updated look to it!
“Okay! What if instead of a painted backdrop we use my studio as the background. Your staff can either sit in our arm chair or stand and we can use a real plant behind them. It will make it feel more warm and inviting and I think you’ll love the final results!”
There was an instant excitement at the recommendation and they decided to go for it! After all, they’d said they wanted their headshots to match the new brand, which was warm, professional and approachable. Less stiff. This would achieve exactly that!
I must say, I am pretty proud of the schedule we created for the RaeLipskie team. We were expecting 25 people for both professional makeup and their headshots. Professional makeup varies in time depending on the person, and a headshot session is a different length, too! It took some very-thought-through-logistics to ensure we could enjoy a smooth day!
To get all 25 people through with two poses each, we couldn’t have any “downtime” in the shoot room or with the makeup artist. I decided there would be times when the makeup artist would pause one client to do a quick job on someone else. This would allow us to keep the day moving in both the styling lounge and the shoot room. My studio coordinator would greet each person upon arrival, welcome them, and show them to the styling lounge.
I made a blank schedule and let RaeLipskie know the green time slots were for people who just needed a 5-minute grooming and the blue time slots were for a longer makeup application. They input the names and here’s what we came up with for the schedules in each room:
The headshot day couldn’t have gone smoother and we wrapped up our last shoot 5 minutes ahead of schedule!
Because they wanted variety, we shot some with the tree in the background and others with a window overlooking the greenery outside.
We delivered their gallery earlier this week and, with Brian’s permission, here is his updated headshot.

The team they’ve put together over at RaeLipskie was a joy to work with and we could tell they enjoy each other, too!
A big thank you to RaeLipskie for trusting us with your new imagery and to everyone involved in pulling off such a successful day!
